Former Medtronic CEO Bill George predicts ‘severe effects’ on business from COVID-19

Businesses are starting to take action to contain the spread of COVID-19 on their own, whether or not they get direction or support from federal and state governments, said former Medtronic CEO Bill George Thursday morning in an interview on CNBC.

“The only strategy we have right now is containment, and that means shutting down businesses,” George said in the interview, apparently done from Minneapolis. For companies in virus-affected areas like Seattle, that could mean closing offices and having staff work from home. For many others, that will mean canceling travel plans. He expects that the trend will continue at least into the foreseeable future and that it’ll be more intense than many realize.
