Intuitive Surgical may be the leader in surgical robotics, but these eight companies aren’t sitting idle. Some already have devices on the market.
MD+DI has been digging into the world of surgical robotics looking not only the landscape but also at upstart companies looking to shake up the status quo in which Intuitive Surgical is head honcho.
So, continuing on that theme, here are eight robotics companies or technologies that you should be aware of. In alphabetical order they are:
Name of Company: Blue Belt Technologies The Navio Robot: Navio is in part a handheld robotic surgical system that allows orthopedic surgeons to do partial knee replacements, specifically in precise and accurate bone cutting. Recognizing the growing importance of robotics in orthopedic surgery, U.K.-based Smith & Nephew purchased Minnesota-based Blue Belt Technologues for $275 million in late 2015.
