ATLANTA, GA–(Marketwired – Feb 10, 2015) – Jason Rupp has joined the Southeastern Medical Device Association (SEMDA) as its first full-time Executive Director. Prior to joining SEMDA, Rupp spent 12 years in business development and marketing at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO).
“We are delighted to have someone with Jason’s depth of understanding of the medical device industry join SEMDA in the Executive Director position,” said Tiffany Wilson Karp, SEMDA President and Executive Director of the Global Center for Medical Innovation.
“Over the past 10 years, SEMDA has grown dramatically through the contributions of the Board of Directors, numerous volunteers and part-time leadership,” Karp continued. “With Jason, we have someone with the best possible experience and skill set, and who is singularly focused on growing the medical device industry in the Southeast. This is a significant move that will accelerate the growth and recognition of medtech in the entire region.”
“It was with great reluctance that I left the terrific team and important work of AdvaMed,” Rupp said. “However, the opportunity to work with SEMDA, which has a strong national reputation for its accomplishments, was just too good to pass up. I look forward to being part of the Southeast medical device community, and to supporting its continued growth.”
One of Rupp’s first tasks will be to assist with the final details of the 2015 SEMDA Conference, which will be held March 31-April 1 in Atlanta.
At AdvaMed, Rupp served as Vice President of Business Development and on the board of directors of the AdvaMed conference. Before joining AdvaMed, he worked for BIO for 10 years in membership and marketing. He has also served as the Director of Business Development for ACI Aviation Consulting, where he led the firm’s business development activities, valued aviation deals and performed financial and economic forecasting.
Rupp moved to Washington, DC, where AdvaMed and BIO are based, in 1994 to intern on Capitol Hill, working his way up to Legislative Assistant for Sen. Tim Hutchinson of Arkansas with a focus on transportation and environmental issues. He earned a B.A. in political science from Brigham Young University and a M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
