Dr. Lanman receives organization’s designation as National Top Spine Surgeon

(LOS ANGELES) — Leading spine surgeon Dr. Todd H. Lanman has received an invitation to join the National Spine Health Foundation’s (NSHF) Medical and Scientific Board, and has been granted the organization’s designation of National Top Spine Surgeon. He now joins other prominent luminaries in the field including Richard D. Guyer, Todd J. Albert and Thomas C. Schuler, among many others.

The National Spine Health Foundation is a not-for-profit that devotes its efforts to improving spine healthcare via education, research and patient advocacy. Its primary objective is to raise awareness among the American public regarding the treatment and prevention of neck and back health problems. Through its Medical and Scientific Board, it verifies what works and what fuels innovation, while also supporting patients through their journeys to optimal spine health. One hundred million U.S. citizens (roughly one third of the nation’s population) suffer from neck and back pain on an annual basis. The surgeons in NSHF’s Medical and Scientific Board offer various insights, expertise, proficiencies and experience to its public education activities.

Dr. Lanman has been on the frontlines of innovation within the spine health sphere for the last three decades. He has presided over numerous advancements relating to motion preservation, including cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacement procedures, often serving in the role of the principal investigator in the majority of cases. In 2017, he performed the very first 2-level artificial disc replacement in the U.S., using the FDA approved Prestige LP.

Two years later, he gained international recognition for being the first surgeon in the nation to perform a 2-level and 3-level procedure, using the first anatomically correct artificial cervical disc device with a compressible viscoelastic core. This groundbreaking medical advancement helps patients suffering from pain in their spine attributed to degenerative disc disease.

Dr. Lanman has also been a pioneer in the innovation of Restoration Motion Surgery, successfully removing fusions from patients, and implanting artificial disc devices, resulting in restoring near or complete mobility to patients, which had previously been inhibited by fusion surgery.

As a foremost expert in spine health, Lanman has been honored for his work with numerous accolades including being named one of the Top Doctors in America.

He remains an expert educator and contributor in the medical world, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Lanman has published many peer-reviewed papers, along with book chapters, and he has presented over dozens of papers to national and regional medical society meetings. He continues to teach students at UCLA, serving as an associate professor for the past 20 years.

His medical practice, Lanman Spinal Neurosurgery, located in Beverly Hills, is affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center.
