Dallas County will report its highest single-day totals for both new coronavirus cases and deaths on Tuesday since the pandemic began, according to a report, with the director of the county’s Department of Health and Human Services saying he’s concerned the spread may accelerate with recent protests seen in the city of Dallas.

KEY FACTS

  • The county—which includes the city of Dallas in its entirety—will report 257 new coronavirus cases and 16 deaths Tuesday, with The Dallas Morning Newsreporting that Health and Human Services Director Dr. Philip Huang informed county commissioners of that Tuesday morning.
  • Those numbers break the old records for Dallas County, which had a single-day high of 253 new cases, reported multiple times, with the previous record high of 14 deaths in one day coming on May 19.
  • Tuesday is the sixth-straight day Dallas County will have reported at least 200 new cases, seeing a new spike after a period of decline after cases appeared to plateau in mid-May—much later than the early April timeframe when much of the U.S. appeared to hit its peak so far.
