ATLANTA, June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — MedShape, Inc., the industry leader in orthopaedic devices using advanced functional material technologies, is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Kohrs and Dennis Stripe to the Board of Directors. Both Mr. Stripe and Mr. Kohrs each bring over 30 years of experience across multiple facets of the medical device industry.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Stripe and Mr. Kohrs to the MedShape team. Their extensive knowledge and relationships in the industry will be instrumental as we continue to launch new products and grow the business,” stated Kurt Jacobus, president and chief executive officer of MedShape.
Mr. Kohrs is currently the president of Foundation For Essential Needs and separately serves as a strategy consultant to the medical device industry. He previously served as the chief executive officer and director of the orthopaedic device manufacturer, Tornier N.V., from 2006 to 2012. At Tornier, he grew the company from a small business to global player, eventually leading to its public offering in 2011. Prior to joining Tornier, Mr. Kohrs served as chief executive officer and chairman of the board of American Medical Systems Holdings, Inc., a publicly held medical device company, and was also general manager and founding member of Sulzer Spine-Tech Inc. During the past 10 years, Mr. Kohrs has served on the board of directors for over 10 different medical device companies. He currently presides on the boards for several technology-based medical device companies including Inova Spine and OmniGuide, Inc.
Mr. Stripe currently presides as managing director of Compliant Innovations, Inc. as well as a director of Central-Insurance Companies. Previously, he served as chief executive officer and director of OrthoHelix Surgical Designs Inc., a privately held foot and ankle medical device company, from 2008 until 2013. During his tenure, Mr. Stripe led efforts to secure additional financing and rapidly grow the company’s product portfolio and sales distribution network, transforming OrthoHelix from struggling start-up to a self-sustaining enterprise and eventually resulting in its acquisition by Tornier, N.V. in 2012. Prior to OrthoHelix, Mr. Stripe held numerous management roles, primarily in global marketing, for Stryker Corp., Spine Division and Smith & Nephew PLC.
“MedShape has built a unique portfolio of lower extremity and sports medicine products utilizing the company’s patented material platform technologies. I am looking forward to working with the company’s board and senior management to expand its footprint in the industry,” said Mr. Stripe.
MedShape recently introduced the FastForward™ Bunion Correction System featuring novel 3-D printed titanium technology to select markets across the U.S. With over a year of clinical data collected, the company aims to fully launch the product later this year. FastForward accompanies MedShape’s growing product portfolio that leverages the company’s patented material technology platforms including pseudoelastic NiTiNOL and shape memory PEEK Altera®.
