DENVER, Aug. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Peak Orthopedics and Spine is pleased to announce that sports medicine physician Margarita Sevilla, MD will be joining the practice August 17, 2015. Dr. Sevilla has provided care to some of the nation’s top athletes in various sports, including the Olympics, baseball, football and triathlons.
Dr. Sevilla is a board-certified family medicine and sports medicine physician who completed her sports medicine fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Sevilla started her career in Minneapolis as a primary care sports medicine attending physician for Sports and Orthopedic Specialists.
She is actively involved in local and international athletic programs, both as an athlete and as a physician, including the medical team for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, the Marathon Olympic Trials in Houston, and the YWCA Women’s Triathlon in Minneapolis. Dr. Sevilla was also the medical director for Lifetime Athletic Events sponsored by Lifetime Fitness.
“As an athlete, I understand the physical challenges active patients face and how to help them get back to sports and activity most effectively,” said Dr. Sevilla, who is a triathlete. “Women, in particular, of all ages and competitive levels, are more physically active than ever before. Staying active is an important part of my own life, so I have a first-hand understanding of the concerns of female athletes.”
One of Dr. Sevilla’s areas of interest includes ultrasound guided platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. She was one of the first physicians in the Twin Citiestrained to perform this procedure. She has treated multiple NFL players and amateur athletes with PRP, which is utilized to shorten the healing time after injury. Dr. Sevilla is also one of the few physicians in the county that is licensed and trained in the Regenokine® Program.
“We’re very pleased to have Dr. Sevilla join our team of physicians,” said Craig Loucks, MD, with Peak Orthopedics and Spine. “She has a wealth of experience working with athletes of all levels from around the nation.”
Dr. Sevilla will also be working as the medical director of Integrative Performance Institute (IPI) – a joint venture with Peak Orthopedics focusing on specialized training and medical care of elite and pro athletes. To learn more, visit peakorthopedics.com and ipisport.com.
